Here are some frequently asked questions related to woodburners and their installation.

What is the best way to chose a stove?

Aesthestically suitable to your taste is a good start, but you must also consider the kw heat output of the stove, woodburners run a lot more effieciently with dry wood and kept to their temperature capacity.  If you enter your room measurements into either the charnwood stove selector or www.radcalcs.com then this will give you an idea of btu's and therfore killowatts of heat that are required for your room.  Do not choose a stove that is too powerful for the room, you will not be able to sit near it!

What do I have to do to fit my stove?

First of all you need to establish what condition your chimney is in, if it is damaged or cracked then this is dangerous and can lead to CO2 leaking into the room.  We would recommend that a Soundness test and sweep is performed in your chimney so that it is cleaned and you can establish if it needs lining.   Having your chimney lined is recommended by all stove manufacturers because they are more efficient but it is not essential if the chimney is safe

What is HETAS?

Hetas is the governing body for solid fuel, it gives installers and the public guidelines on how to fit all solid fuel appliances safely and efficiently.  When a woodburner is fitting, there are guidelines that the installer has to adhere to to make the stove safe to use within a home environment.  The heat from a woodburner is intense and it is therefore these safety measures that stop chimney fires and accidents.  For more information look at www.hetas.co.uk.
